Cubed has information and learning areas to support IVE's role to provide information and instruction on the use of virtual environments.
To teach the new users how conduct in AW and VR in general, there are links and teleports to special tutoring web sites and worlds (AWSchool, AWGate). For users who already know the basics of moving and acting in VR setting, there are links to websites about VR on the internet.
The Learning Center can host many functions of IVE. For now, there are two rooms for the general study planning, with links to the courses of IVE for introduction and enrolment, and teachers' webpages, where the student might e.g. study the day's lesson, take an exam, pick up lecture notes and find links to interesting web pages. The back room is a library, with www links to VR info, documents and newsgroups.
The north east corner has an open-air auditorium suitable for large lectures. There are big screens and speakers for live video and audio feeds with examples.
For those who'd rather study in the traditional school environment, the northern edge of the world has a little wooden schoolhouse, complete with old fashioned desks and chalkboard.
DesignThe instruction areas are located to the west and north of Ground Zero. They are designed to be clear, modern and "matter-of-fact", with little decorations, to keep the mind focused on the subject. The Learning Center is made of connected modules and a web-like i-beam structure, representing net with www links. Links are set intuitively into computer and screen objects. The wooden schoolhouse is also a museum piece of sorts, one small nostalagic note to emphasize how far education has come from the one room school house to a whole world of web connected educational opportunities, which is what the rest of Cubed is about.
