3D Studio Max 3.1 Hardware Lock Drivers---Arghhhh!!!

God can somebody please help me! I'm having what appears to be the same problem that Bart had in a previous post to this board. I d/loaded the ahem, "free" version of this supossedly wonderful 3D package and installed it. Everything was going great, then I try to run the program and I get hit with this message:

"Harware Lock is not attached or you are using the wrong lock, or the lock device drivers are not running."

I tried what seemed to fix the problem for Bart in the earlier post, running setup again and installing the HWL drivers again, but still the thing gives out the same message.

I am getting very pissed off, but I spose I can't complain; it's free.

Any help greatly appreciated
