The next planned thing is to import/export meshes from/to 3DStudio (4). So, by exporting an existing mesh, modifying it / its textures, reimporting, you should be able to change any mesh in any way you want. But if you don't own 3DS... As for editing textures directly in TRViewer... Why not, it could be interesting... I record the idea for later use :)
